Bio

William Arrowood is a visual artist based in East Tennessee. His work is aimed at exploring everyday interactions to compose a compelling narrative and to draw attention to forgotten or overlooked ways of life. William received his BFA from East Tennessee State University in 2021 and is currently a second year MFA candidate at East Tennessee State University. Through William’s career he has had the opportunity to lead various workshops and currently teaches Digital Photography at ETSU. William’s 2021 series Essential aimed to highlight the tumultuous times of being an essential retail employee during the Covid-19 pandemic.  His current body of work Heirloom explores themes of sustainable agriculture and self-reliance through photography, sculpture, and printmaking. William creates a narrative around ethical stewardship of our lands and highlights the value of growing, harvesting, producing, and preserving our own foods. William’s works have been selected for various exhibitions and awards to include, Presidential Purchase Award: Runner Up at East Tennessee State University 2018 and a Jerry’s Artarama Purchase award 2025, and are included in collections such as the Archives of Appalachia.
